Up-cycling by Carbon Footprint

Circa 1950’s gem up-cycling from the inside-out.

We removed old, tattered and worn upholstery piece by piece and laid them out to use as true patterns of the original. Horse-hair padding was removed, sanitized and reused to maintain authenticity along with new and renovated springs. Canvas netting was hand-tied and wrapped, per the original, to each of the 200 individual springs, 4 times throughout this sofa lounger. Two-tone, updated charcoal grays contrast one another strongly or diminished, depending on amount of light and location. The fabric – Perennials®. Each rectangle piece was hand-cut, sewn and tufted. New buttons were punched and wrapped in opposite fabric. This lounger found it’s way to Phoenix via Grand Rapids, Michigan we found written on the inside framing. It was custom built for a San Francisco penthouse. This is truly a classic beauty.

The Importance of High Quality Fabric

Carbon Footprint Furniture is selected by customers that expect the highest level of craft and quality in the materials that make up the products that they own. We also believe that we have to deliver the very best in all that we do – starting with manufacturing.

Manufacturing includes the base, or foundation of the design, its materials, finishes, and fabrics. Our furniture designs have been painstakingly created to provide you with an up-dated style, harking back to the mid-century modern era of furniture, that has seemingly been missing for decades. We are very proud of our designs, but they are just the foundation to the whole package. The cushions and upholstery are the second statement to completing the design – the decoration, the jewelry that makes the final statement. But, also it is the most interactive part of a furnitures design… The true connection that is made when some sits on a cushion, gets comfortable, and settles into the environment. The quality of this experience is as integral as the design itself.

Perennials© fabrics also takes care in their craft and process as shown below.

Carbon Footprint uses Perennials©’ high quality fabric because they are recognized for their outstanding beauty and longevity while lending distinctive, sophisticated textures, colors, and patterns to outdoor environments, which are fade resistant, mildew and mold resistant, and easily maintained.
